1. Are there any tomatoes that can be planted which could take the heat and humidity? If so, what varieties? 
Only cherry types of tomatoes will do well in the summer in South Florida.  See: Mini-gardening (Growing Vegetables in Containers).

2. Can I grow hot peppers at home?
Depending on where you live, you may be able to grow hot peppers in your own garden. For more detailed information, read the articles about non-bell Peppers, or contact your County Extension Office.
